So I’m not going to overwhelm you with every single feature the plugins have to offer that convo is for another day.

Instead, I just want to walk through some of the things that stood out to me — what I liked, what I didn’t, and what helped me most with productivity and SEO.

Why I Tried Rank Math

After hearing a lot of buzz about Rank Math. Bloggers, marketers, business owners and seeing the raving have about the tool I knew I had to give it a try.

And of course, here at Blogging For Africa, we’re all about testing things out if it means improving SEO and overall content performance.

So, I decided to give Rank Math a try.

The Pros of Rank Math

There were definitely a few things I appreciated:

• More SEO prompts in the free version. Compared to Yoast’s free version, Rank Math gave me more detailed suggestions, which was nice.

• The newsletters. I know this sounds random, but I genuinely enjoyed the emails from the Rank Math team. They were valuable, down-to-earth, and actually useful — which is rare.

So, Rank Math wasn’t without its perks.

The Cons of Rank Math

But here’s where it fell short for me:

• Not mobile friendly. This was the deal-breaker. I run most of my blog from my phone, and Rank Math just didn’t play well with mobile. Sure, I could hop on a laptop when necessary, but that slowed me down and cut into my productivity. For someone who blogs on the go, flexibility matters.

• A little “wonky.” Sometimes I’d complete the SEO steps and the plugin wouldn’t turn green, which made the process feel glitchy and frustrating. It just wasn’t as smooth as I needed it to be.

At the end of the day, Rank Math required more effort than it was worth for me.

Let’s Talk About Yoast SEO

Okay, I’ll admit it — I’m a little bit of a fangirl when it comes to Yoast. I’ve been using this plugin for quite a while, and honestly? It’s been a solid, reliable tool that just works.

Here’s what I love about it:

• Straightforward and effective. Even the free version of Yoast gives you prompts that are simple, clear, and exactly what Google is looking for. It gets the job done without overcomplicating things. Could you go further with the premium version? Sure. But for most bloggers, the free version is more than enough.

• Mobile friendly. This was the biggest factor for me. With Yoast, I can easily optimize posts straight from my phone — whether I’m traveling, running errands, or just away from my desk. It keeps me productive without tying me to a computer.

• Clean and reliable. I like the interface, and it works consistently. When I fix something, it registers. No guesswork, no glitches.

• Built-in tracking. Yoast automatically keeps an eye on my blog posts right from the start, which is super helpful.

Ultimately, Yoast fits my workflow perfectly: it’s simple, seamless, and mobile-friendly — everything I need as a blogger.

Who I Think They’re Best For

• Rank Math → Best for desktop-first bloggers, marketers, or businesses that want lots of built-in tools and don’t mind a steeper learning curve.

• Yoast SEO → Best for bloggers who value simplicity, consistency, and mobile-friendliness — especially if you’re creating content on the go.

My Honest Recommendation

So, which one do I recommend?

If you’re someone who does most of your blogging from a desktop and you want all the extra bells and whistles for free, Rank Math could be a great option.

But if you value simplicity, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently from your phone — Yoast SEO is hands down the better choice.

For me, the winner is clear. Around here, we’re sticking with Yoast SEO — today, tomorrow, and probably for a long while.
