How to Create Fierce Content Effortlessly All Year Round.
Ok, so you have this amazing business that you’re bringing online GREAT!
However, you’re trying to figure out the secret sauce to creating consistent content all year round so that when you enter next year, your brand and business are on a whole other level! First, let’s start by saying this is a GREAT question! Many business owners want to create content, but they’re not sure how to stay consistent with it.
So, let’s start off with a little transparency…
Learning how to be consistent is a skill, my friend, and I would even say an art.
As the primary content creator for Blogging For Africa, I can tell you firsthand that I’ve had to practice and learn this. Really, every business owner whether online or offline has to learn the art of consistency.
However, there are a few things I’ve learned about consistent content creation that I haven’t heard covered on many blog posts or podcasts, etc.
Identifying the type of content you want to create.
And the list goes on and on…
While I think those points are important, there are a few other key strategies I’ve discovered that I believe need to be explored a bit further.
So let’s dive in…
First things first.
1. What’s Your Magic Sauce?
Here’s a little something that’s known but honestly, I feel it’s talked about too briefly which is: knowing your magic sauce. So, what do I mean by magic sauce? No, I’m not talking about the sauce I add to one of my food videos hehehe. I’m talking about your secret power.
If you’ve been around here (the blog) for even the briefest of moments, you’ve probably learned that I’m BIG on the belief that everyone has that special something about them. However, that “special something” is different within each of us. Yes, it sounds a little cliché, but it’s true.
Your job as a business owner is to find out what your special something is—aka, what’s your magic sauce?
My friend, before you plan on doing anything else related to your content, you have to find out what that is for you. This information is the key to creating consistent content. Without knowing this, you will struggle. And let’s be real no one has time for that!
So, get alone and get quiet, and figure this out. I don’t care how long it takes, but figure it out!
The revelation may come instantly, or it may take days or weeks and it may be an ongoing discovery. Whatever time it takes, you need to find this out.
Here are a few examples of possible superpowers to get you thinking:
The ability to motivate others.
The ability to organize things effortlessly.
The ability to persuade others to buy.
The ability to build rapid rapport with others.
The ability to see anything and know how it can instantly be better.
The ability to calculate numbers for others in a way that makes sense to them.
The ability to create something super fast that may take others a lifetime to do.
The ability to convey or sell a message using the power of your words.
The ability to tell stories that inspire others to take action.
The ability to use blunt speech to get others to take action.
The ability to generate ideas faster than the average person.
The ability to showcase a specific talent and teach others how to do it.
This list could go on forever some are pretty standard, while others might be totally unique to you. But once you know what your superpower is, you’ll be in your natural element. When you’re aligned with your strengths, it becomes much easier to be consistent with your content.
Here’s some psychology and science to back it up:
Research in psychology, particularly in the study of flow (a concept introduced by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi), shows that when we engage in activities that match our skills and passions, we experience a state of deep focus and enjoyment. You can read more about Csikszentmihalyi’s theory of flow here.
Studies have found that people who experience flow are 500% more productive than those who don’t, demonstrating a significant boost in both efficiency and creativity. The more you tap into your natural talents, the more consistent and effective you can be in your work Source.
Which leads to to another thing…
2. Avoid trying to make your worst skill your best skill.
Now that we’ve covered finding your magic sauce, let’s talk about the flip side: stop forcing yourself to turn things you genuinely dislike into your favorite activities, or trying to make your weakest skill your strongest.
Hear me out there are things in life you need to do, even if you hate them. YES! However, if you can minimize these tasks as much as possible while still getting amazing results, why not?
And before you give me the speech about how you have to do the hard things to learn discipline yes, yes, I know. But the question is: what hard things?
For example, if you happen to be someone who hates exercising, should you force yourself to exercise? Or if you don’t like drinking water, should you avoid drinking water and have your favorite sodas instead?
And while both scenarios may seem odd to you, I’ve met people who genuinely dislike both.
However, the simple answer to both questions is no because there are hard things in life and business that we have to do, whether we like them or not.
However, what I often see is many business owners force themselves to do dreaded tasks that may not be necessary or could be outsourced for a small cost.
For example, as an introvert, you know how draining it can be to be around crowds whether online or offline for extended periods. Trying to be an extroverted business owner may make sense for a natural extrovert, but it can be draining for you.
So why do it? It’s not the best use of your energy.
In this case, instead of engaging with your audience in an extroverted way, a better use of your time might be focusing on more isolated content like blogging, YouTube, podcasts, partnerships, and or growing your audience on platforms like Pinterest doesn’t require constant interaction with large groups of people.
On the flip side, if you’re an extrovert and love constant engagement with others, working in isolation on tasks you dread is simply not the best use of your energy.
The goal is not to change who you are to build your business but instead, utilize the natural gifts and skills that come naturally to you.
Hopefully, this makes sense.
So, write down the tasks and activities you absolutely dread, and look for ways to replace them with tasks or activities that flow more naturally with your energy. Focusing on improving or doing things you dislike is just not the best use of your time and will directly affect the consistency of your content.
3. Have your fundamentals in place.
You’ve probably heard this before, but I have to share it again because it’s very important when creating consistent content for your business all year round: having all your ducks in a row when it comes to the fundamentals needed to run your business online.
Creating content for your business is like a 100-piece puzzle. With the basics in place branding, website, lead magnets, and key topics you’ve got your starting pieces. This makes it easier to stay consistent, set a schedule, and maintain a flow, knowing where to start and what to focus on.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen business owners start the content creation process without a website, without an email freebie (lead magnet), without consistent branding, or without brand templates.
While this is courageous and ambitious (and I love the hustle), having your fundamentals in place helps A LOT.
Especially having a content-driven website. This is a platform you own, where you can host your contentwhether it’s YouTube videos, behind-the-scenes highlights, or products.
Social media, my friend, is not enough for your business in the digital space moving forward. You need a “Content-Driven Website.” I cover more on this topic in the following blog posts:
Starting your content creation process without your fundamentals in place is possible, but it’s not recommended. You’ll have a lot of backtracking to do and will likely miss out on key opportunities to maximize any exposure you receive.
If you want all your ducks in a row with a beautifully designed, content-driven website, templates, and a unique content strategy for your business but need help putting it all together, don’t worry. 4. Narrowing it down.
The fourth tip I highly recommend for creating fierce content effortlessly all year round is to narrow down which platform you’re going to prioritize and be MOST consistent on.
Knowing your primary content creation strategy is important because it provides the focus you need to create content. After all, if you don’t know which platform you’re creating on, you won’t know what to create.
Regarding primary content creation strategies, I recommend going for those that will give you the best return on investment.
Of course, content created on the platforms you own—like your website and email list—should come first. This could be in written format, YouTube, podcasts, text, images, etc. But I wouldn’t recommend putting all your eggs into social media content alone.
Social media content is great for quick wins and staying connected with your audience, but your primary content strategy should be organic and focus on long-term growth. Platforms like your Blog, YouTube and Pinterest are ideal because they allow your content to reach your audience for months or even years.
Whether you post every day, every few days, weekly, or monthly, having a regular posting rhythm helps your audience know when to expect your content.
Every business is unique! Things like your niche, audience, time zones, the platform and the type of content you create all play a role in determining what’s best for you.
While the specifics like how often you post and when will vary from business to business, the important thing is finding a pace that feels manageable and sustainable for you. When you do that, it’s much easier to stay consistent!
6. Here’s a Little Bonus Tip: Embrace Spontaneous Content.
A little secret that I’ll pass along is that I actually don’t have an extended content calendar anymore. Yep! I don’t have one anymore because I spontaneously write and create content daily and I prefer not having topics saved weeks in advance.
Of course, this is just my personality type.
I don’t mind adjusting plans or strategies on the fly, but I always stay focused and meet deadlines often ahead of schedule.
For a long time, I was made to feel odd for being this way.
Being told, “You have to have a content calendar,” or “You should batch your content topics a month or months in advance.”
But, for my style of work, it’s just not needed. I work much better with short time crunches.
But let’s be honest when it comes to batching content months in advance, things can change so quickly. Personally, I like to stay flexible and adapt on the fly, which means I might switch things up at a moment’s notice. But honestly, this is how I keep things fun, stay on top of everything, and still meet my deadlines with time to spare.
But what about you? Are you the type who needs to know every detail of what you’ll be sharing days, weeks, or even months in advance? Or do you enjoy creating in the moment or under a time crunch?
Either way, neither is right or wrong just consider doing spontaneous content if you naturally flow that way, and don’t feel bad about it. If the job is done, it’s done; that’s all that matters. 🥂
Okay, boss, these are my tips on creating fierce content all year round.
