How to Create a Google Sitemap in 5 Minutes or Less

Step 1: Let’s reheck If Your Website Platform Already Created One.

Before doing anything extra, lets be be on the safe side and recheck  if your platform already did the work for you.

If your site is on Showit, WordPress, or Sqarespace try typing this in your browser:

yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

If something loads — you’re good!

But if it says “Not Found”? Keep reading, love bug.

Step 2: Install a Plugin (WordPress users only)

If you’re on WordPress and your sitemap didn’t show up, download one of these plugins:

• Yoast SEO (most common)

• Rank Math

• All in One SEO

Once installed, these plugins automatically generate a sitemap for you.

It’s usually found at:

yourwebsite.com/sitemap_index.xml

✅ Bonus: They’ll also optimize your blog for Google in other helpful ways.

Step 3: Double Check the Link

After installing the plugin (or if your platform already created one), test the link in your browser again:

yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

yourwebsite.com/sitemap_index.xml

💛 If a page shows up with links listed and it says “XML Sitemap” — congrats!

You’re officially ready for the next step: submission.
