Your Font Size Killing Your SEO? Let’s Fix That, sis🥂
Here’s a little secret, love bug: blogging successfully often comes down to the simple things.
Over here, we talk all things SEO, content creation, soul-led strategy, and turning your blog into profits — the fun way.
But today, we’re zooming in on a tiny detail that can make or break your content-driven website.
And sis, that one tiny detail? It’s your font size and style — and yep, that little combo might be costing you blog traffic.
I know it sounds simple, but hear me out…
Your font — meaning the size and style of your blog text — could be quietly blocking your traffic and pushing readers away before they even get to your good stuff.
We need to fix that — and I got you!
Here’s Why Font Size Matters (More Than You Think) 👏🏽
Here’s the thing, love bug — you could have the most powerful message, the kind of content that could genuinely shift someone’s life, or the solution they’ve been searching for.
But if your audience can’t comfortably read your blog?
Whew, chile… Google’s not gonna love that, your readers won’t stick around, and they’ll miss out on the life-changing information or product you created just for them. You’re not pouring your soul into your blog just to be overlooked.
So let’s talk facts, sis:
Still think font size is a small deal? Let’s go deeper.
1. Your readers won’t read your blog like your mom.
Time for a little honest moment…
Have you ever clicked a website from Google or Pinterest, only to find the font was tiny or hard to read? Be real — Did you stay?
Exactly. You left. Because ain’t nobody got time to squint and figure out what the blog was trying to say.
Don’t let that be your site.
Here’s the truth: people won’t stay around to decode the content.
Nope. They’ll click off — unless it’s your mom, of course.
And I don’t know about you, but I think my mom would 100% pull out her magnifying glass to read mine — gotta love the moms of the world 😂
But your website visitors? They’re not your mom.
So if your font is too small, too light, or just plain hard to read — they’re gone.
You need to make every second someone’s on your site count.
2. Google’s Watching Your Font, Sis.
Okay, so as much as it’s important that your readers can see your content, it’s just as important that Google can too. And yes — they check. Why?
Because they want to make sure the search visitors they’re sending out are landing on content that’s actually easy to read and visually solid.
Now while Google doesn’t have a tool that checks font size directly, what they do track are things like:
Your Website’s Mobile-Friendliness:
Fonts that are too small or hard to tap on mobile will trigger warnings in the “Mobile Usability” section of Search Console.
Page Experience + UX:
While Google doesn’t “penalize” bad design, it watches behavior — like how fast people leave, how long they stay, and whether they bounce back to Google search.
✨ If your font is hard to read, people will leave quick — and that sends a negative signal to Google about your blog (we don’t want that).
While Google doesn’t “penalize” bad design, it watches behavior…
Now, there are other readability factors that matter too — and they can make the difference between whether your blog gets the green light or the red flag from Google.
(And yep — I actually break some of those down in this blog post: How to Write Your Next Blog Post Like a Pro: A Complete Guide)
Which leads me to my next point…
3. Low-Quality Font = Low Conversions.
If your text is hard to read or too squeezed together, people won’t stay long enough to click links, buy offers, or trust your expertise. Clean fonts help build credibility — and that drives sales.
4. Make It Easy for Mobile Readers!
So this one is pretty huge — because most of your readers?
They’re not on desktops. They’re on their phones, scrolling fast and lookin’ for clarity.
Over 63% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices (source).
That means your font has to feel and look good on small screens — clear, comfy, and scroll-stopping.
If it’s hard to read, it won’t feel good — and they won’t stay.
5. Consider users with visual impairments.
So, this one can be easily missed — and let’s be real, not on purpose.
But be sure to consider those in your audience with visual impairments who may need that little extra boost to fully enjoy your content.
And here’s the best part: it’s a literal 2-second fix.
But that tiny tweak? It can make a world of difference.
Here’s a quick stat to consider:
Larger fonts are crucial for users with visual impairments, as they improve reading speed and comprehension (source).
Ok and lastly, larger fonts size just look better.
Think about it — when you land on a blog with a nice, open font that’s easy to read… doesn’t it feel like a breath of fresh air?
Exactly. That’s the vibe you want to give your audience:
That “ooooh lala” experience.
That “I love it here” moment.
So How Do You Fix Your Font and Give That Chef’s Kiss?
Simple.
Aim for 16px to 18px for body text. That range is your sweet spot — readable across devices, easy on the eyes, and just polished enough to look like you know what you’re doing (because, love bug, you do).
