Finding new ways to share what excites us can feel like a never-ending quest. So I’ve been diving into social media lately, and while I love social media, I must admit I always find myself feeling like there’s always so much more I want to share.
If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ve probably been feeling that itch too!
So, what’s the solution? Should we keep cranking out content on social media, or is there a more fulfilling way to tap into our creative superpowers? Great question!
In today’s blog post, I want to share how you can elevate your brand and business by embracing blogging as your creative digital home.
First off, let’s clear the air: there’s absolutely nothing wrong with creating solely on social media. Thousands of businesses thrive by promoting themselves on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and many are doing just fine! However, could these brands take their game to the next level by branching out and creating content from their own websites? Oh, absolutely!
One of the biggest reasons I encourage creatives to set up their own blog or website is simple: you need a creative home that you truly own. I say this often, but it’s so crucial. While social media is fantastic for connection and sharing, remember that we don’t own these platforms. They can change algorithms, limit visibility, or—yikes—even shut down without notice!
Imagine waking up one day to find your hard work vanished into thin air. Scary, right? We’ve seen it happen to many creators on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. But what if you had a cozy corner of the internet—your blog—where you could create freely, without the constant worry of losing everything? Wouldn’t that feel so much better?
Think of having a content-driven website as owning your own home, while content created on social media is more like renting. In both spaces, you can create, but one offers more equity, longevity, and control. With your own blog, you can express yourself fully, share snippets of your day, and dive deeper into topics you love—all without the anxiety that comes from fluctuating social media dynamics.
Think of your blog as a blank canvas just waiting for your unique flair! Whether you’re a writer, artist, musician, or designer, blogging gives you the freedom to express yourself however you choose.
You don’t have to just write; that’s the old-school version of blogging.
It’s all about creating engaging content that works for you, whether that’s through videos, podcasts, or gorgeous graphics. All of these formats are favored on search engines and platforms like Google and Pinterest.
Social media is fantastic for quick engagement, but its content typically has a lifespan of a few minutes to a few days. In contrast, blogging enables your content to attract traffic to your business for years.
So why not leverage the immediate rewards of social media while also creating enduring content on your blog? It’s the perfect combination for a successful strategy.
Now, let’s chat about brand equity. What’s that? It’s the value your brand holds in the minds of your audience. A strong brand equity means people recognize, trust, and prefer you over others. Think of blogging as building a warm, welcoming home that people want to visit again and again.
When you share valuable, insightful content, you position yourself as an expert in your field. This builds trust, making your audience more likely to turn to you for advice, products, or services. Imagine your blog as a friendly guide, leading your readers through the wonders of your creativity.
I can’t stress this enough: no matter how incredible your social media posts are, they won’t show up in search engines (unless it’s a LinkedIn article). With billions of searches happening every day, your blog can be the key to getting discovered!
By optimizing your posts with relevant keywords, you increase your chances of showing up in search results. More visibility means more potential fans and customers, which is fantastic for boosting your brand equity!
