Write Less, Grow More: How Non-Writers Can Turn Blogs Into Powerhouses
So, you’ve been contemplating the idea of starting a blog for your business, but there’s has been a little fear creeping in…
It’s not the fear of commitment.
It’s not the fear of running out of things to say.
Or figuring out all the tech stuff.
Nope, the real worry? You’re slightly concerned that you’re not a great writer.”
And guess what? You’re not alone, and even better news—you don’t need to be a perfect writer to create a successful blog.
In fact, blogging is less about being a great writer and more about sharing your unique voice, ideas, and passions with the world. So let’s dive into why your writing skills (or lack thereof) shouldn’t hold you back from starting that blog for your business.
You can be yourself with blogging.
The biggest misconception about blogging is that you have to have a super formal blog in order to create a successful blog for your business and this my friend, is far from the truth.
Now, sure, you can be that sharp-suited businessman who talks like a lawyer and still have a successful blog, YES. But most people usually see blogging as something super formal. The truth is, anyone in any niche with any personality type can make a blog that works.
So when you think about blogging, the best thing to do is to think of it as a wide spectrum that’s filled with business blogs but also other popular niches like:
– Parenting Blogs.
– Food Blogs.
– Travel Blogs.
– Photography Blogs.
– Educational Blogs.
– Health and Fitness Blogs ext.
However, not only are there different niches within the blogging world, but there are also different writing styles. Here are just:
Inspirational: This writing style is all about lifting people up by sharing personal stories, quotes, or reflections to inspire readers and make them feel hopeful or motivated.
Comedic: With this writing style, humor is the name of the game. Writers use jokes and funny takes on everyday stuff to engage readers and entertain them while sharing a message or commentary.
Poetic/Creative: This one’s all about the art of words. It plays with creative language, metaphors, and vivid imagery to express ideas in a beautiful way. It’s less structured and more about the flow of language.
Narrative: This style tells a story, usually with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Writers share personal experiences or anecdotes to connect with readers emotionally.
Review-Based: This is for sharing opinions on products, services, or experiences. It blends personal thoughts with facts, highlighting both the good and the bad.
Journalistic: Think of this as straightforward reporting. It sticks to the facts and presents information without bias, much like a news article.
List-Based: This style uses lists—either numbered or bulleted—to make content easy to skim. It’s perfect for readers who want quick, digestible tips or steps, and it’s often seen in business-related posts.
The goal is to be yourself.
Share your ideas, thoughts, experiences, knowledge, and recommendations in your own style with your unique personality.
You don’t have to write long articles to create a successful blog.
Now, before you think I’m about to jump into some spill of how you can utilize AI to create all your blog content, my friend…I am not.
In fact, I personally do not believe in utilizing AI to write significant portions of almost any content but specifically for blog content. Personally, I’m not sold on using AI for writing significant portions of your blog, especially with the plagiarism concerns it may potentially raise in the future.
I also think utilizing AI to write large portions of your blog post can take the unique vibe of your brand out of your content.
I talk a little more on this topic in this blog post: 21 Data-backed reasons you should blog for your business.
However, I’ll give you something even better.
You may not even need much text to be a blogger at all.
Blogging has evolved.
Gone are the days when long-written content was the only way to go. Now, it’s all about creating diverse content that your audience can engage with like:
– Videos
– Podcasts
– Images
– And can even blend of all three!
The goal is not to become the best writer but to connect with your audience across popular search engines like Google and social platforms like Pinterest. Also, think about maximizing your blog for networking, brand deals, and of course, boosting your sales.
Having a blog is not just about having text that your audience can consume; it’s about creating content that your audience can consume.
Google and Pinterest Don’t Care If You’re a Great Writer: Visual and Audio Content Also Drives Success
One of the biggest questions I get when I tell people they don’t have to be a great writer to blog (after they recover from the shock, of course, lol) is whether Google or Pinterest care if you don’t create just text-based content.
And the answer is no, not anymore.
Google and Pinterest, two of the biggest platforms for driving traffic to your blog, don’t really care if you’re a master of words.
In fact, blogs that succeed on these platforms often use photos, videos, and podcasts to enhance their posts, and in some cases, these elements take center stage and here are some reasons why:
While Google’s search algorithm values well-written content, it also favors multimedia-rich blogs. This includes photos, infographics, videos, and even audio files.
Here’s why:
So, if writing isn’t your strongest suit, focusing on visual content like photos, infographics, and videos can actually land you on top of search results.
Pinterest, though often lumped in with social media, is really a visual search engine. It’s one of the best platforms for driving traffic to blogs, especially those that prioritize high-quality images.
Multimedia content like videos and podcasts is rapidly gaining popularity in the blogging world. Platforms like Google and Pinterest love these formats, and here’s why:
Two other important factors to consider
One of the biggest benefits of creating other types of content is that not everyone consumes information the same way.
Some people prefer reading, while others are more visual or auditory learners. By offering different content formats – text, images, videos, and podcasts you’re able to cater to a wider audience.
This also increases the likelihood that people will stay on your blog longer, boosting your engagement metrics like time-on-site and reducing bounce rates, both of which Google factors into rankings.
2. Repurpose content across other platforms.
Another benefit of relying on more than just writing is that you can repurpose your content across different platforms. For example:
This cross-platform approach drives traffic from multiple channels, reducing the pressure to create high-quality writing for every blog post.
By incorporating these elements, you can attract readers (aww
So, don’t let your writing skills hold you back—start creating, sharing, and watch your blog grow through the power of being yourself and multimedia.
Final Thoughts: Just Start
Don’t let the fear of not being a “good writer” stop you from starting a blog. At the end of the day, blogging is more about connection than perfection. Your voice, your story, and your experiences are enough.
Whether you want to share tips, document a journey, or just get your thoughts out into the world—your readers will appreciate you for being you.
So take a deep breath, forget the idea that you need to be a writing pro, and just start and who knows? You might even surprise yourself and realize you’re better at writing than you thought and if you don’t take comfort in writing is not the only method to becoming a successful blogger.

Thank you for the wonderful tips! A year ago I started my blog which was in September 2023. I didn’t know what I was doing only that I wanted to do it lol. I quit after the first 3 months because it was too overwhelming. I felt like I wasn’t getting enough traffic. Then something told me to restart it back up again and this time I was better at. I didn’t give up! I just kept pushing! Now I have launched my new design shop and it is only up from me here! I will be using some of your ideas 😌
Yay! That’s super exciting! Honestly, this is where all the resilience and faith come into play. Cheers to your journey, girl! 🎉
